This dataset contains thermographic video recordings of cutting tools during turning processes, accompanied by microscopic images of tool wear and quantitative wear measurements.

The dataset consists of 52 thermographic videos (.mp4), organized by individual cutting inserts. Each insert is represented by multiple recordings of the cutting process and corresponding microscopic images of tool wear. Additionally, a structured dataset of quantitative tool wear measurements is provided in tabular form.

Important: The videos can be converted into image frames, making them directly suitable as input for deep learning models. At a sampling rate of 3 fps, the dataset yields more than 80,000 images.

Tool wear is expressed as a continuous variable (in millimetres), supplemented by expert-based qualitative assessment.
